Here’s a quick test. Think about the most recognizable brands that come to mind. What is it about these brands that make them stick in your brain? Is it the colors? The message or tagline? The logo? The most memorable brands have achieved that status by having a defined look that is a cohesive blend of color, fonts, logo, messaging and images. It’s that repetition and adherence to their “look” that make these brands easy to spot a mile away.

January/February Marketing Update

I'm posting this marketing update as we're in the home stretch of the "Polar Vortex" that has gripped much of the country. I posted this photo on our Facebook page because it definitely felt like walking on the planet Hoth these last few days making the trip from the parking ramp to the office.

NaNoWriMo and Self-Publishing

During the month of November tens of thousands of people around the world will participate in NaNoWriMo. The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30th. NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, is a fun, supportive event that encourages people to achieve their creative goals and find their voice. Last year 402,142 participants from all walks of life tackled the challenge and came away novelists.

September was a busy month! The end of SLP, kids heading back to school, the kick-off to Library Card Sign-up Month and finally winding down with Banned Books Week. October looks to be just as action packed with Teen Read Week, National Friends of Libraries Week and my personal favorite holiday, Halloween!

Marketing for Fundraisers

Some of the best marketing campaigns I have been involved with revolve around solving a problem, either stated or implicit. A common mistake is to focus inward and spend all of our resources and time espousing the reasons people should be paying attention to our project. Instead, turn that spotlight outwards and send a message conveying how our project will benefit those whose attention we need.
