I'm posting this marketing update as we're in the home stretch of the "Polar Vortex" that has gripped much of the country. I posted this photo on our Facebook page because it definitely felt like walking on the planet Hoth these last few days making the trip from the parking ramp to the office.

This update covers Teen Tech Week, the upcoming Summer Library Program, marketing plans and video production. Stay warm!

Teen Tech Week

Showcase your digital resources and services that are available to help teens succeed in school and prepare for college and their future careers during Teen Tech Week. This advocacy and awareness campaign runs from March 3rd through the 9th and the ALA has made a resource kit available with a variety of promotional materials. I have the links listed here and can assist with designing or printing any materials you may need.

Summer Library Program

Considering the recent weather, it’s hard to believe that summer will be here before we know it. SLP is one of the busiest times of the year for all of us and we encourage everybody to have your printing and design requests sent as early as you are able to.

The theme for this summer’s program is space and the slogan is “A Universe of Stories”, which also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing.

OWLS can help design and print bookmarks, program brochures, posters, buttons and die cuts. We have several die cuts available that fit in with the space theme including:

  • Star
  • Sun
  • Robot
  • Flying Saucer
  • Astronaut
  • Moon
  • Extra Large Rocket Ship

Marketing Plans

Have you already created your marketing plan for 2019? Developing an effective marketing plan doesn’t have to be a complicated or lengthy process and can be as simple as creating a yearly marketing calendar to help track your strategies, goals and objectives.

At its core, a marketing plan boils down to a written document that will help you strategize on how to best communicate with your customers. Think of it as a framework that will help guide you throughout the year and keep your marketing goals on track.

Another benefit of creating a marketing plan comes into play with planning your budget for the year. Knowing which marketing mediums you are going to be using throughout the year to deliver your message will be valuable when determining a marketing budget.

I have included links to a few different marketing plan resources including a workbook developed by New Mexico State Library and a long range plan from Montgomery County Public Libraries.

If you are interested in developing a marketing plan and need some assistance I would be happy to discuss this with you.

Video Suggestions

The most recent “What’s Simmering” video is available and was shared at the latest AAC meeting. If you have any suggestions for future topics to cover in this series I would love to hear it!

I have also been working with several of our member libraries on videos to help promote the upcoming Summer Library Program. If you are interested in putting together a promotional video to share on your library’s social media pages and website and want me to help record, edit and produce your video, please let me know.
